EyeBuyDirect 24-hour "Buy One Get One Free" Sale (and we get early access!)
Posted by Ira at Saturday, November 08, 2008I'd argue that during my two-plus years at this none of the other sites in this space have done so much to improve the online prescription eyeglasses shopping experience than EyeBuyDirect.
EyeBuyDirect is having a 24-hour sale on Monday, but this weekend, we GlassyEyes folk have an opportunity to get an extra 36-hours of shopping opportunity to give them a try. The $7.95 frames are excluded -- but even two at $14.95+ is a fantastic deal. You'll pay $5 a pair for the requisite UV coating and about $7 for anti-reflective.
I plan on taking them up on this offer (and playing with some of the site's features) this weekend. Will you?
UPDATE: Ron emailed me today with the following: "Offer includes only single vision lenses with anti-scratch coating." In my haste to get this post up, I neglected to mention it. Thanks Ron!

Click the logo (or any of the links) in the post, find a couple of pairs that work for you and are $14.95 or more and one of them will be free in your cart.
They're big fans of the GlassyEyes site so they always give us the early heads up.
Just checked it, it is working right now on Saturday evening. - At November 9, 2008 at 2:05 PM Anonymous said...

Yes. It is definitely working; I ordered yesterday. Their form seems a little janky; not sure why they don't just host the whole thing in HTTPS; i'm not a fan of dropping CC data into a form that isn't HTTPS, even if it posts to an HTTPS URL. Also, for some reason Paypal insisted I pay with echeck and didn't give me a chance to pay via my existing balance (possibly a paypal problem).
"Checkout" actually adds your glasses to a cart and gives you an option to continue shopping (so, really, it's an 'add to cart' button, not a 'checkout' button); also somewhat confusing.
Good deal though, a couple of nice frames under $35 or so. - At November 17, 2008 at 8:28 PM Anonymous said...

Wow! My frames shipped already -- they are apparently due to arrive this week. That means they turned around 2 frames in under 2 weeks. That's awesome.

OMG You guys I just wanted to tell someone that I ordered a pair of glasses from zennioptical. They look so damn cute, I can't wait to get them, and with shipping to Europe they only cost me about 30 euros! (38USD)
Ah you folk in the US are lucky to have so many different places from where to order cheap glasses, we only have two somewhat good online stores here, and compared to zenni they are expensive. The cheapest pair is around 80USD, with a very small selection of glasses.
When I was about 15 (my vision was still getting worse as I was growing up) I got a pair of glasses that were store-bought, very pretty brand name glasses and ridiculously expensive, at ~400 dollars. I stumbled upon them yesterday while looking for some papers. I experienced very delayed buyer's remorse.
Love your site by the way <3 - At December 5, 2008 at 2:17 PM Unknown said...

I actually took advantage of the BYGO sale at EyeBuydirect but...
Placed order on 11/10.
Received e-mail on 11/11 asking for the tint on my sunglasses. (had already given that in the order.)
Replied to e-mail that day with the requested information.
I called to follow-up on 11/18. I was told at that time AGAIN that they had put my order on hold waiting for the tint information. I told LEO at that time the tint information AGAIN. He said the order would now continue to be processed.
I called again on 11/25 (Tues) to follow-up. I was told by the female CSR that my order was in the final stage and “you should have it by next Tuesday, AT THE LATEST (12/2)”.
Tuesday 12/2 – did not receive them. I called and now was being told “no, we meant that they would ship NO LATER THEN TODAY 12/2”. That’s not what I was told on 11/25!!!
I asked if they could be expedited and was told “it was too late, they had already shipped via USPS” and “you should have them NO LATER THEN 12/5 (Friday).”
Friday 12/5 – did not receive them. I did, however, receive and e-mail that “my order had shipped on 12/4 and I should receive them in 2~3 days.”
Called the help desk and asked for a manager. Talked to “Prince” who identified himself as a manager. Explain the situation. He said that they “just had a meeting with USPS, and they informed them that some of the order they picked up on 12/2 got diverted/delayed and it wouldn’t actually ship from USPS until 12/4” my order was apparently in that bunch.
He offered a 10% refund. I accepted and asked when I should expect my order. “Saturday or Monday at the latest”. If I don’t have them by Monday I’m calling back and demanding a 50% refund.
